Developing Positive Mental Health for Performance

Healthier and happier workplaces tend to be more engaged and productive.

However, if you don’t know how to manage it, chronic stress can take a toll on your health and mental well-being.

Our interactive seminars bring together elements of positive psychology, resilience, stress management and mental health awareness for teams who would like to assess their current levels of performance and consider practical actions to improve – before we hit pressure points!

Despite much discussion concerning the nature of workplace stress, our jobs are getting more and not less stressful. While stress certainly isn’t unique to any one profession, working in a fast-moving environment does throw up a number of situations that can be unique to any particular sector.

The demands of the business environment, ever increasing governance requirements and rapid global change all add to the feeling that we are far from in control. Identifying those things that we can control and those that we cannot could help to prevent daily hassles from becoming major problems; but we may not be able to do it on our own.

Stress with its specific combination of cognitive, emotional, physical and behavioural response has positive and negative impacts. A result of a stressful experience can be a loss of health, but we can also feel more powerful, resilient and compassionate.

Stress management strategies are important protective factor for a successful and satisfying workplace.

Workshop topics may include:

  • Understanding dynamics and characteristics of stress
  • Identifying our own “stress signature”- and that of others
  • Role of thoughts, feelings, body and behaviour in stress response
  • Exploring our internal world in stressful conditions – understanding “my patterns”
  • Holistic stress management approach
  • Mindfulness: building self-awareness and frustration tolerance in stressful conditions
  • How to stay calm in difficult situations: noticing, accepting and letting go of negative thoughts
  • Practicing breathing and self-awareness techniques
  • Building sustainable stress management capabilities for team members, including direct reports
  • Supporting team members when dealing with change, stressful events and the fast pace of the working world
  • Using self-reflection as a protective factor
  • Maintaining newly learned skills in stress management
  • Personal action planning
  • Action plan for the team

While we do work to a general structure – of what we know works well! – there is scope for each individual session to be tailored to the level of staff attending, the issues of your specific sector and any areas of difficulty being experienced at the time of the workshop.

Wellbeing is good for business

Healthy people are happier, more engaged and more productive. Employers across the UK are acting now to support the wellbeing of their people and create mentally healthy businesses.

Stress, anxiety and depression are the biggest cause of sickness absence in our society. Mental ill health is responsible for 91 million working days lost every year.

Jane Nathan and Education4Health have provided a welcome contribution to our Wellbeing Agenda at Chessington World of Adventures.  I believe that Jane has the attributes and skills to add tremendous value to the Wellbeing Strategy at the Resort.

Jane recently facilitated 2 Stress Awareness and Resilience Workshops for a number of our Managers and Team Leaders.  We found her to have a highly engaging, interactive and inclusive style.

Pre workshop stress audit questionnaires have proven to be an excellent precursor to the session and have offered a valuable insight to areas of potential stress.
